Happy Year of the Tiger!

AT HOME
AT A PARTY
No matter if you choose to celebrate at home with your kids or reserve a room at the Hard Rock Hotel! Make sure you get some glam this New Year's eve and put a huge smile on your face.
  • If you're celabrating at home: Decorate your house, set up a nice table, get your little black dress on and accessorize! It can be as simple as a potluck, but make sure that the food gets served  in a festive way for your guests.
  • If you're celebrating at a party outside: Glam it up! Sparkle and shine with great make up and great fitting and tasteful cocktail clothes. Drink in moderation and sustain your energy through the party so you could enjoy it all.

New Years Resolutions

My traditional new years resolution is no secret to those around me! I hope this year is the last year I have to set it as a goal as I really want to get done with my PhD thesis. The Jessica Elliot necklaces below pretty much sum up the rest. What are your new year's resolutions?

What is your holiday style?

Happy Holidays and New Year to all of you out there! I'm enjoying a two week long stay-cation during the holidays and choose to dress up only for special dinners and parties. The rest of the time, I'm out and about walking to the coffee shop or going to the the playground with my son. I wish like was like this all the time and we got to eat chocolates and enjoy downtown with our families. I ended up having a uniform of a white puffer vest, jeans or full skirts, chunky scarfs, knit tops, converse shoes and my favorite old snowflake pin.... here is my holiday capsule easy and practical.

White Elephant Holiday Party

Even if it is a white elephant party, it is still a special occasion. In order are a little bit of sparkle or silk or lace or a string of pearls. I generally use an item to dress down the dressy items like jeans, rugged boots or more casual fabrics. Here are examples to my favorite white elephant party looks.

Sparkle through the holidays using brooches

Pinning sparkly brooches to your outfits is a great way to bring out the holiday spirit in you. I love the effect of a litle sparkle in dark winter days and through the holidays. You can use brooches in endless ways... on a jacket or coat collar, to fix your scarf in place, as a necklace on turtlenecks, on sweaters or on the last button of a shirt,  on a canvas bag or handbag strap, on a plain headband or a hat, on the pockets of pants, ... I can't count a hundred varieties of this.

I sometimes use multiple brooches together on a cardigan or pants to make it look like a belt buckle. I even use them as a quick fix for lost buttons on jackets as I've posted before. Sometimes I replace the buttons of a shirt or cardigan with different brooches. The simplest way to dress up or dress down an outfit and turning an otherwise ordinary piece to unique!

Thrift stores are my all time favorite places to find original brooches and pins. It's not just for the price but also to bring in that old fashioned feeling of having a classic piece on your modern clothes.

Hope you have as much fun with brooches. Do you have a favorite brooch?

Office Holiday Party: Dressy

You'll have a lot more fun if you feel office-appropriate in a work party. Just pop a festive clutch, patent shoes, statement necklaces or an evening jacket on top of your office appropriate clothes and you're good to go.

I have two favorite gold jackets for this purpose that I pair it with black pants, dresses or skirts similar to the outfit above in the middle. Any neutral color also would be fine in my book. I try not to wear red to holiday parties as it seems the most favorite color.

My other choices are graphic or wrap jersey dresses as well as simple dresses with high-quality statement accessories. Which style above do you like the best? Hands down middle one for me.
