New Trend: Floral Headbands

I love a chunky one like the blue headband on the upper left corner on short hairstyles. A flat and impressive one like below looks beautiful on longer hair as below.

What do you think? Is this look for you?
Floral accessories including pins, barrets, handbags and bracelets are a big hit for Spring and Summer 2009. Within all, floral headbands are a pleasant surprise for me. I think the style will pick up even more in Fall with the holiday season.

I already purchased one with a flower and feathers that I love for a night out or to dress up a casual outfit. It feels extra modern with my short haircut. It is also one of the few hair accessories I can use. Mine was a really cheap one and it sure gets me compliments.

I've seen it used fabulously with jean jackets, jersey dresses, skirts and even walk shorts. If you have the means to invest in one romantic accessory this season, I'd say invest in one. You will save dollars and create a romantic look similar to a look with a floral tea dress.

My Style: Gold dust cardigan with green double wrap belt

Spring 2009 has a lot of comebacks from the 80s including yellow gold and double-wrap belts. The gold dust cardigan is a great ageless neutral wardrobe piece that one can use in endless combinations. Here I mixed it with a green double wrap belt and jeans to dress it down for a casual day at the farmer's market. I only added a colorful scarf and a straw bag to carry all. Viola!

Tea Party Trend

One of the pleasant surprises of Spring 2009 for me is the tea part trend. I love the rose prints, flowy silk dresses, classic pearls, classy hats, straw bags, and most of all flower pins and accessories. Can't wait to sport the look fo brunches over the spring and summer.

The best way to wear this trend with an edge is to layer sheer fabrics and combine them with bright accessories that represent your personality. I'm even considering using funky accessories and jean jackets with such dresses and skirts. It is one of the looks to explore with and you wouldn't know how it will suit you until you experiment with it. Try it! You won't be
disappointed. I'll post some tea party looks soon!

Zipper Detail Trend

Zippers are not just functional pieces that keep your clothes in places this Spring. They are everywhere in different shapes and forms. It's possible to find a form or a zipper or inspiration from the zipper shape on purses, skirts, shoes, belts, jewelry and everything else.

Moderation is the key when it comes to using this look. Combining an original look with a unique zipper detail could scream stylish if done right. Avoid lookingover-accessorized by choosing other pieces in your outfit to be sleek cuts and solid colors without patterns.

Use Cardigans to Adjust Your Look for an Occasion

Cardigans are great additions to any wardrobe for a number of reasons. They are great layering pieces in the cold and hot weather. Using a dressy cardigan could dress up a look making it smarter where as a casual cardigan might turn an evening dress into a brunch-appropriate style.

This year, there is a great collection of cardigans out there in various styles. There's never been a better time to stock up on a variety of cardigans to use for many years to come.

Colorblock dresses show up in almost every designer's line for Spring 2009 in primary colors and layers. So how to wear this look? Take a few vintage colorful pieces that you own and mix them with new solids. You'll make a colorblock outfit of your own. Choose the darkest color within you color mix and use it for shoes and accessories. It frames your outfit in a quite and sophisticated way.  If you feel like you need inspiration, check out the dresses below.

Steal or Splurge? - Wide Belts

Wide belts are one of the hottest accessories this Spring. The trend started last year, but it sure became extra popular this year with belts available in all price ranges. When it comes to steal or splurge, I'd say steal for belts. They are not everyday accessories and tend to not last long. This last statement is arguable with wide belts as they can be worn inside and outside of your jackets, cardigans, etc. and don't get worn easily as they don't sit on your waist clinging to belt loops. So, maybe it is ok to splurge on wide belts if you can find a good fit in a basic color you can match with a lot of your closet items.

When it comes to wearing a wide belt, FIT is the KEY! It should comfortably sit high on your waist close to your chest and should never be too loose. It will accentaute your shape like a corset in this way.

A good way to use wide belts is on top blazer jackets to create a sophisticated work look. They also look really stylish when worn on shirts inside cardigans. I personally don't like the on top of cardigan look as I like skinnier belts with cardigans, but the choice is yours. They look extra fab when worn with plain or color block dresses and skirts. I'd be more conservative on other accessories as your belt will be already getting attention in the right way.
