Happy Year of the Tiger!

AT HOME
AT A PARTY
No matter if you choose to celebrate at home with your kids or reserve a room at the Hard Rock Hotel! Make sure you get some glam this New Year's eve and put a huge smile on your face.
  • If you're celabrating at home: Decorate your house, set up a nice table, get your little black dress on and accessorize! It can be as simple as a potluck, but make sure that the food gets served  in a festive way for your guests.
  • If you're celebrating at a party outside: Glam it up! Sparkle and shine with great make up and great fitting and tasteful cocktail clothes. Drink in moderation and sustain your energy through the party so you could enjoy it all.

White Elephant Holiday Party

Even if it is a white elephant party, it is still a special occasion. In order are a little bit of sparkle or silk or lace or a string of pearls. I generally use an item to dress down the dressy items like jeans, rugged boots or more casual fabrics. Here are examples to my favorite white elephant party looks.

Thanksgiving Outfit for the Entertainer and the Guest -- Food for Thought

If you are the Guest:
  • Plan your attire according to the dressiness level of the dinner party. A little overdressed is better than under-dressed on such days.
  • A sheat dress is a good option for many reasons. You can dress it up and down. This is an eating day so the dress will give you enough room around the waist unlike jeans and pants.
  • Accesorize is you don't have a festive dress. A little sparkly pin can turn a simple dress or jacket into an evening wear.
If you are the Hostess:
  • Make sure your clothes are comfortable to move, especially not restrictive around the arms and sleeves when you serve. A festive knit top with 2/3 sleeves is generally a great option.
  • Flat shoes with sequins are a great dress up option when you have to stand a lot.
  • Plan to get done with dinner preparations at least half an hour before guests arrive so that you could change and apply your make up.
  • Opt for statement earrings and chokers as long necklaces and bracelets can get in the way around the kitchen.

The Dutch Street Style: Plaid Shirt Dress, Skinnies and Converse

One thing there's no shortage of on the Dutch streets is the colorful Converse Chuck Taylor shoes. I saw it being combined with plaid boyfriend shirts, shirt dresses, motorcycle jackets and many more. My favorite look with Converse shoes is the quite common shirt, belt, skinny jean and scarf pair. On cooler days, I noticed that a lot of most add a motorcycle jacket to the outfit. I love the casual style of this look and will keep using it myself.

The Dutch Street Style: Floral Dresses with Tights and Gladiators

Very surprisingly, the weather in the Netherlands had been great all through April. While I'm still cold at times, the locals already started showing off their summer style. One distinct look I've seen over the last week is the floral dresses with tights. I have seen the greatest variety of tights in color and fabric here. Bright colors and prints are especially very popular in contrast to the classic neutrals, black and white.

The best way to create this look is to keep it casual with low heels, denim jackets, cardigans, etc. A big bright tote or a few bright bangles could also be great pairing pieces.

I've always been a supporter of the look, but something tells me I'll rock this look even more when I finally feel like it is summer. ;-P

The Dutch Street Style: Asymmetric skirts with riding boots and short jackets

As the weather gets better, the skirts come out of the closets and to the streets. The asymmetric skirts are a staple of European wardrobe as I always see women sporting this look. I love the casual and artsy looks one can come up with such a skirt rain or shine. There's no shortage of it on the Dutch streets either!

The Dutch Street Style: Skinnies, boots and trench

Legacy of Pearl was quite for about a week. I'm visiting The Netherlands for a couple of months and I spent the whole week settling down.

Amsterdam is not as fashion forward as Milano or Paris, but I don't share the opinion when it comes to personal style including their homes. It's not my first time here, but everytime I visit I'm very impressed by how the Dutch combine casual comfort with style. This time is not an exception. I'll post a few looks on some of the trends on the streets (and on the bikes:) here.

The weather has been good this week, so no rain outfits yet. But Dutch women know how to reuse their trenches on top of skinny jeans, boots and bright totes. This is by far the most common look!
