On the Road Again!

My five week long trip to Europe started already. This trip was a packing nightmare. I have a cool weather conference that I have to present in, then a semi-formal hot weather meeting where I will present something daily for four days, then we are going to a hot weather conference for hubby, then a hot weather beach vacation and finally a cool weather active vacation. I was only allowed for one bag and I'm not a fan of big luggage fees. So I decided I will take only one suitcase with me and stop where it fills up. After all, with some smart decisions and a regular size carry-on, I was able to pack a vacation lot that I was happy with. Layering will be my friend and a lot of wearing same shoes over and over. Limited shoes is definitely not my thing, but I had to. :)

For the trip, I went for the legging look again. It's been very busy two weeks prior to this and will be like this for another two. I was looking forward to some comfortable traveling clothes. What's better than leggings and knits for that!

I got this shirt and soft cascading vest at New York and Company recently. I'm really happy with the quality of the vest. Strongly recommend it if you like cascading vest look. Everything I'm wearing are the exact links on the right to NY&Co.

I have a conference talk tomorrow. It's a bit cold here in Amsterdam. I'm even considering wearing this vest with my black pants, white shirt and pearls. Hope I get a chance to photograph.

Have a great vacation day if you're in the United States!

White and Purple

I love the freshness of the white jackets in Spring and Summer months, but always with bright colors and sometimes black. This purple shell made me think about the white jacket to pair it with on the sunny day after a month of "May Gray".

I have to leave right when it is good weather again in San Diego... See you from the other side of the Atlantic!

Oops I Did It Again! Leggings As Pants...

As you might have noticed from the lack of posts, I was on travel and now I'm getting ready to leave for five weeks at the end of the week. I only had a chance to capture one outfit last week and that was a traveling outfit.

I loved in my leggings in the '90s. I wore them as pants, PJs, tights, you name it... This time around, I limited my legging usage to under skirts and tunic dresses. Until last week that is! These are ponte knit stirrup pants so I don't know if they count as real leggings, but I love them. They feel like being in sweat pants all day and they look better. Perfect outfit for flying I thought. In the rush of the early morning, I wore a camisole long enough to cover down to my hips an added a white shirt on top of it with a nude cardigan. It was on the way to the airport when hubby commented (he liked it!) on leggings as pants that I noticed that the tops might have been too short. I actually received a few compliments to my surprise.

What do you think? Does it look fine? Or should I just stick to tunic tops with leggings like I normally do?

I also embraced this season's nude shades completely without any colorful accessories. A trend which I thought I'd never sport. I also kind of like it the way it is. Do you like the all nude trend?

Sneaker Wedges

If you like wedges, but look for even more comfortable shoes that also give you a little bit of height, then you will love sneaker wedges. I had these Coach sneaker wedges for more than five years and never got bored of wearing them. It is hands down one of the most comfortable and fun shoes in my "not so small" shoe collection. They traveled the world with me and the satin held up well. They recently started showing some stains on the satin. I will try Mr.Clean on it, but I'm scared I would ruin the fabric. Do you have a better suggestion for getting dirt of satin shoes?

Wish you all a good week!

"Dress"-ing in Season's Favorite Colors

I bought this dress for a wedding almost a year ago and ended up not being able to attend the wedding. So I never got a chance to wear it as a dress. However, I think it makes a fab skirt under sweaters and I'm happy to re-purpose it this way.

Today, I liked adding my vertical stripes to it using seasons favorite colors. I happened to have a very old belt that brings all four colors together and it made up the outfit for me!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Daily Steal: White Denim Jackets under $50

Maternity

My Favorite

UNDER $25
UNDER $50

I love the versatility of white denim jackets in Spring. They cheer up Winter colors, provide Spring-appropriate cover up and dress down formal pieces to give them a life under daylight. However, I'm not a fond of spending a lot on white denim since I wash them a lot. Loads of washing changes the color a bit even when bleached so I change them yearly or every other year. I don't see the point in investing in a denim jacket that I won't have in two years.

If you're like me, you will love these options. I'm up for one this year. I love the look of the leftmost bottom one and will sure check it out soon.

Sunset, Sequins and Studs

San Diego sunsets are best to enjoy this time of the year when the days are longer and it is warmer. We love beach walks after dinner to see the sunset. Today was one of them. My knit tank was shining with the last lights of the day. This was my favorite part of the day.

What is your favorite time of the day?

Acai Boost

Acai beads is one of my favorites for costume jewelry. I was gifted a few by Brazilian friends or friends who visited Brazil. The natural understated material makes me feel good. This one was from our au pair from Brazil. I received an email from her that she'll be visiting soon after more than a year of not seeing her. I decided to wear her necklace to celebrate the good news. She's loved him dearly and became one of our family when she was with us. I can't wait to reintroduce her to my son.

I was asked a few times to write about how I build my outfits. So here's one...

I wanted to wear the necklace and boots together and the rest of the outfit followed their lead. Coral tee and nude camisole was the best match within what I had, and I knew I wanted pants other than jeans. The whole thing still felt off, so I used a black camisole to tone down light&bright colors and add a contrast to the nude cardigan and boots. The final color combination called for the patent leopard belt so I threw it in.

As you see, I add and remove items like I used to do with colors in my oil paintings in the old days. Add some, cover some, etc.. Modest but fun and interesting is my end goal. How do yo build your outfits?

Shades of Orange

This is an autumn outfit, but it felt perfect to celebrate the return of my yellow bag on a cloudy day.

I (my son) recently spilled red wine all over this bag. I asked around how to clean it and the last option was the shoe cobbler I always go to. Needless to say, it wasn't possible to clean it.

They tried to clean the leather was red wine really penetrated into the soft leather. So they suggested painting it for $45. Since I like the bag and it was a gift from hubby, I decided to give it a try just to see what they can do. I was really surprised when I picked it up today. It actually came out the same color and it doesn't look too bad. They mixed the colors to match the color of the bag. This leather was really special before so the soft feel is gone a bit, but it's not sticky or rubbing of on my clothes after trying to rub it for a minute. I don't think it would last a long time , but it gave this bag another season of life.

Overall, I recommend this only if you have stained a much loved handbag you can't part with.

Take care! Hope you get a midweek break tomorrow and do something special!
