Just back from my son's school fund raiser. It was fun and such a successful event. The gARTbage we built had some good bids on them. My favorite was a bookcase made out of half a boat. What a creative idea! I'd have it in my son's big boy room in a heartbeat.
You're probably wondering what Queen's Day is if you don't have close Dutch connections! Queen's Day (Koninginnedag) is a national holiday in The Netherlands to celebrate the birthday of late Queen Wilhelmina. It is a crazy day overall where everyone is dressed in the Dutch national color orange and attend crazy street parties and flee markets. The memories of strolling the streets of Amsterdam last year is making me smile as I write this. You can read all about it here.
I have an orange jacket to wear on Queen's Day's, but I couldn't risk showing up in orange between two important meetings and the fund raiser today. Instead I opted for a less "scream-y" orange camisole. I also had an orange scarf that i forgot to photograph. The tunic boyfriend shirt is my recent score at NY&Co and the pants are exact ones in the link on the right. I have them in a few different colors. These are the best pants and they 50% off right now.
This was a super casual day with a remix of a bunch of things I've worn recently to re-wear them before washing. Since I try to minimize my washing for environmental reasons, I often wear my clothes in clusters. I have a small part of my wardrobe to lightly worn clothes that are not freshly washed, but also are not dirty enough to be washed. I know it sounds a bit like peeing and non-peeing section of a swimming pool as the clothes share the air, but I air everything I wear for a day before putting them back in and I just don't like the worn clothes touching the unworn.
As you know I like layering with camisoles. The first layer gets washed after every wear, and the second wash mostly gets washed after the second wear. The rest of the layers gets stretched as much as they go.
Do you have a strategy for your laundry? How often do you wash your clothes?
It was another busy rainy day. First I sold raffle tickets early morning at my son's school, then worked until 8pm and finally went to my bookclub to see my girls. Waving at you N, K, C and K2! :) The last part brought the life back to me, but I'm ready to go to bed now.
As you can see, I'm putting my new boots to good use. I wanted to add pearls to the wrap dress, swap my cardigan to gold and tuck my jeans in the boots based on Angie's suggestion on YLF. This way I could show a quick day to evening transformation before I left work, but I was late and couldn't wait any longer to get out to see everyone. I got out with what I had on at work all day. Next time...
Now that I talked with my "urban sisters" the whole evening and such an inspiring book about a group of women, I'll end today's short post with what I was reminded today over at the YLF forum by Vani.
I did my seasonal closet cleaning last weekend. I actually had a pile already that I kept to give away everything together after my main cleaning. It turns out I still liked a few dresses and this white blazer in there.
This blazer was on that pile for two reasons: I didn't like the arm length and it was missing its only button in the front. I folded the arms in the current boyfriend style and used a brooch for the button using my usual trick. What do you think? Do you think this jacket has one more season in its current shape? I wore it to work today and I was comfortable in it.
I'm 5'10'' so not very many people see a complete bird's eye view of me, but my camera was out of battery today. These are some phone photos. I think they are kind of cool since they show the details better than a regular shot.
We're missing the sun here in Southern California this Spring. I really wanted to wear these shoes for a while, so I decided to go with peep toes today in spite of the grey weather. They are the perfect heel height, softest material and comfortable! They brought an edge to otherwise standard jeans, tee and cardigan.
I like animal prints in general, but my favorite is zebra given my fondness of black, white and bright colors. I can wear this print with so many things in my wardrobe that i acquired some zebra print items over time including zebra specs that I wear at home.
How about you? Do you have a favorite animal print? If so, why do you like it? Do you ever mix animal prints?
Bare legs with boots is a look that I adore for Spring and cool rainy European summers. I recently got these perforated boots just for this purpose and happy to combine them with many springy items in my closet.
I never got into liking the Uggs with miniskirts look as the boots are too warm for the rest of the outfit. I only like it with lightweight boots like these and one other pair that I have. Do you like wearing boots without hose? Or do you think it is conflicting in any way?
On a separate note, I've seen Oceans by Disney Nature today. It is worth a movie ticket if yo liked the Earth, especially with kids. My two year old son can't stop talking about it.
It was a beautiful day outside. Warm temperatures are welcome after a long rainy and cold week. We had a great Saturday with a children's school performance that I had to get up and speak (they gave me an award for my past volunteer work!), a street fair visit, playing in the park with my son and meeting up with friends. I had to dress for all of these!
This London Times shift dress and NY&Co stir-up leggings came to the rescue. I felt put together in a dress for dressy parts of the day; the leggings gave me enough coverage and warmth throughout the day; the flats gave me comfort walking in the fair and running behind my son; and the spacey white bag held my sons essentials and brought the Spring to my otherwise dark ensemble.
A woman has to be multiple things in one day sometimes!
Today is all about welcoming the sun back with my summer boots! It's Friday and I have something to celebrate.
The jacket and the shoes together had the risk of looking too matchy so I added my knotted faux pearl necklace to break the pattern. On a non-work day, I would have worn them with my nude skinny jeans to keep the leg line streamlined. Overall, I love these Frye boots and recommend them. They are also the root of my coral jacket obsession lately.
I had to cover the boots and wear them as shoes at work, but they are tucked back in as soon as I left.
Coral is quick becoming one of my favorite colors this Spring. I already have a few coral items, especially in jewelry, but really love the new pink shade of coral. It looks fresh and looks fabulous with white, nude and other neutrals. So I think it would be great as a jecket to pop on pants and dresses.
With the rainy weather, I've been thinking about a coral trench coats, but I think I'll really get a blazer or something structured like it over the summer.
What do you think? Do you see yourself wearing this color?
It was a rainy day and I had a few important meetings to run around for. This old Armani Exchange trench comes in handy on rare such days in San Diego. I want a coral trench this year for the first time, but I really have enough coats considering where I live. So I think I'll pass.
I have another paper deadline tomorrow so I'll keep it short today. Hope you had a wonderful mid-week day.
