Channeling Mrs. Peacock in this outfit... well at least with the shirt.
I've had a busy couple of weeks, but I finally see the light at the end of the road. I photographed some outfits and didn't get a chance to post. This one was from last week.
I love this banded silk top and all the blues. Paired them with my citrus cork wedges for extra visual interest. The cork wedges are from Franco Sarto last year. I found the other two in this year's Franco Sarto at Endless.com. The same color two years in a row? Maybe they had left overs of the color, LOL! On a serious note, I might purchase a new pair because I love the versatility of this color and how these shoes cheer me up instantly!
I gave a little break to the scarf challenge these two weeks with everything going on, but I'll get back to it soon. Many more to use...
It's finally Friday and I submitted two papers this week! I'm looking forward to this weekend to play. These fun Sweet Pea top, playful shoes and white bead necklace made by me helped me to get through the day. Since San Diego tends to be coolers in the morning and evening, I added the white sparkly scarf that was hand made and gifted to me by my aunt.
Sweet Pea is a brand I use a lot in summer. Although expensive in retail stores, I always find them for reasonable prices in discount stores like Marshalls and Loehmans. I recommend their ease of wash, lightweight no-iron fabric, fun patterns and colors and more importantly easy fit. If you're looking for comfortable summer tops, these are one of them.
One of the things I love about summer fashion is polka dots. I find find polka dots happy and fresh with a European flavor. So they don't have to be in fashion for me to have a few polka dots in my closets. So, I'm enjoying seeing polka dots everywhere this season. Stripes and polka dots... both are making my Spring so far!
These polka dot wedges are a couple of years old and I have the scarf for at least 15 years. I liked adding them to an otherwise neutral outfit and they completely changed the way it looked.
I don't get to do so many dinner dates, but I'm happy that we were able to get out for hubby's birthday. I only had 15 minutes to shower and get dressed to go as usual. I think the outfit came out nicely thanks to the pairing between the red lining of the blazer, satin cowl neck LBD, and the low slung red patent belt. I just added bold earrings, striped tights and cowboy boots to complete the look.
The pictures didn't come out very nicely in a rush unfortunately. I just wanted to share a simple idea. I had this bordeaux blazer for more than 10 years. After not using it a few years prior to this year, I almost gave it away and ended up holding on to it because of it's quality. I'm so glad I kept it. I was able to use it again this year as a boyfriend blazer after simply folding the arms.
Coral is one of this years favorite colors and it is one of my favorite colors. I especially like it with buttery cream and pearl.
This two-toned coral silk scarf seemed like an easy addition to the black and cream outfit that morning especially since the black shirt had coral stripes. Little did I know! In the rush of the morning, I ended up knotting it the simplest way using the square knot. The outfit didn't feel right: a bit boring, rigid and non-creative. I wasn't sure why I wasn't feeling it until I thought about tying the scarf as a neck wrap under the shirt showing only the darker shade of coral and hiding the edges. I was suddenly myself again. These suddle differences can completely change the way I feel about how I'm dressed up.
Which one do you prefer the most: the square knot or the neck wrap?
After finishing the book, I wouldn't say this is a masterpiece, but the true story behind the book is still interesting. I love reading about the idea come alive, perspectives of different women on sharing, friendship, life, their reasons to become a part of the group and their individual interpretations of different points that were being discussed at times. While I enjoyed the time I spent with this book, this is not the way I'd tell this story. Although the author lis successful in keeping the point of view objective, she leaves a lot of details while explaining some of the details unnecessarily.
Overall, I think this is a good book for a book club to spark discussions or to take along on a flight to pass the time with an interesting true story.
Amazon's Editorial Review for this book says "One day in Ventura, California, Jonell McLain saw a beautiful diamond necklace in a jewelry store window and wondered: Why are personal luxuries so plentiful yet accessible to so few? What if we shared what we desired? Several weeks, dozens of phone calls, and one great leap of faith later, Jonell and twelve other women bought the necklace together–to be passed along among them all.
The dazzling treasure weaves in and out of each woman’s life, reflecting her past, defining her present, making promises for her future. Lending sparkle in surprising and unexpected ways, the necklace comes to mean something dramatically different to each of the thirteen women. With vastly dissimilar histories and lives, they transcend their individual personalities and politics to join together in an uncommon journey–and what started as a quirky social experiment becomes something far richer and deeper."
After reading this editorial, I instantly wanted to share it with my book club. A topic like this would spark a wonderful discussion. While I can't imagine myself desiring such a necklace, I could see how women would be drawn to it and the sharing that comes with it. I was intrigued to read it and share how I feel with my friends.
I was at a workshop today. I posed in front of the journals so I look more workshop appropriate.
Daytime bling is something I like to do and I do it often. This tunic has gold stripes so it seemed natural to pair it with a gold cardigan. The scarf is a mix of silk and polyamide so it has quite some shine to it. I like this scarf so much that I have it in three colors. I wore the bordeaux-colored one recently.
I'm enjoying my cocktail rings again these days. I noticed I wore one every day this week!
