Happy Queen's Day!

It's Queen's Day in The Netherlands and the whole country is celebrating with orange clothes on. A wonderful display of affection to their Queen and their country. It's a must see!

Queen's night the night before is full of fun, loud and sometimes crazy parties everywhere on the streets and on the canals. It's like a carnival. On the day, the streets get flooded by garage sale and of course more partying goes on... :)

How to best care for fresh cut flowers?

  • Cut their stems and turn the direction of the flowers180 degrees: This is especially needed for tulips and other long stemmed flowers that grow and turn to the light.
  • Display them in a cool location without breeze or constant direct sunlight.
I love these hanging vases from Bolla on the left. What a creative idea! And growing your own flowers in a pot is for sure the best option in cute pots.
As I've posted yesterday, Spring is a time of wonderfully colorful and scentful flowers. It's great to have a vase of flowers in your home. To get the best mileage out of your fresh cut flowers and enjoy them even more, a few simple tricks help.

  • Check your flowers daily and remove the dry ones along with adding fresh water into the vase every day.
  • If the water is not clear, change it completely and add new additional flower solution (mostly powder that comes with the bunch)

It's tulip time!

in our house. What a better way to bring Spring to your home!

How about you? What is your favorite flower? Do you have any Spring routines?
Of course the best way to have tulips in your home are the real ones in a vase or better in a pot. Tulips were everywhere in our last visit to Istanbul a few weeks ago and they are the highlight of the season here in The Netherlands. We make sure we have plenty of joy from the abundance of this wonderful flower around us and have tulips of all colors
Flowers are the messengers of the awakening of nature for Spring. Tulips are the most precious of them all for our family of Turkish and Dutch. We have tulip-inspired decorable pieces in our home and love to honor our heritage this way.

My Style: Silver Grey with Lime Yellow

In my outfit: Jeans: Jordache by Heidi Klum, Cardigan and belt: NY&Co., Knitted top: Target

I featured the pieces from NY&Co. before. This picture shows the belt and one of the cardigan in action.

A similar style can also be created by using a longer boyfriend cardigan like the Theory cardigan displayed here. The key is to secure only one or a few buttons on top so the bright patent belt can be seen. Alternatively, the belt could be on top of the cardigan as long as it doesn't interfere with the nice pockets.

It's no secret that I love all shades of grey, patent leather anything and cardigans. Here's a relaxing Sunday outfit that I used all of them. I like grey tones matched with yellow the best in addition to the classic black, navy and white. In fact, a light shade of grey can be matched with anything. Even though I'm not a fan of longer arms sticking out of the cardigan like this all the time, I think this worked this time because the tones of grey are matching with a slight tone difference.

The Dutch Street Style: Plaid Shirt Dress, Skinnies and Converse

One thing there's no shortage of on the Dutch streets is the colorful Converse Chuck Taylor shoes. I saw it being combined with plaid boyfriend shirts, shirt dresses, motorcycle jackets and many more. My favorite look with Converse shoes is the quite common shirt, belt, skinny jean and scarf pair. On cooler days, I noticed that a lot of most add a motorcycle jacket to the outfit. I love the casual style of this look and will keep using it myself.

Clogs: Are they that bad?

I remember the Will&Grace episode where Will saw Grace wearing clogs. She said "They are good for your back." to explain and Will responded "They are good for the back of your closet!"

Are clogs really that bad? I like clogs with casual skirts and shorts. They might also be a lot of fun if done right. I especially like the comfort of Swedish cape clogs. They come in a variety of designs, colors and even different colors of wood.

What do you think? Are they no or go?
