Basic camisoles as a layering piece

Basic camisoles are a great way to streamline your look, add an extra warmth to your outfit, to create interesting looks with multiple layers and to get extra coverage especially with low-neck shirts and low-rise jeans.

I like adding layers to all my outfits and use basic camisoles daily. Although they come in all kinds of shapes, I found that the best ones share a few common characteristics.
  • Straight or scoop-neck: To cover up low neck-lines
  • No built-in shelf bra: You already have one. Although some might consider it for extra support. I cut the built-in bra carefully if I find one that I really like in color, fabric or pattern with one.
  • Longer length: This is key if you want to go for the layered look or wear low-rise jeans.
  • Breathable fabric: Almost all cotton with a stretchy fabric. You don't need a thick one if you want to use it as a layering item.
  • Interesting colors and patterns: It is the best way to add color to your neutral outfits or jeans.
  • Lower price tag: You need a bunch of them if you wear them daily and it adds up in time if you were to splurge. They need to last as they get washed more but most of them last as they are mainly made out of cotton.
The ones with patterns, flowers or laces could also be worn inside jackets at work or as a single layer when going out if they are sure to give you enough coverage. I really like the Arden B. camisoles and have also been happy with the ones I get from Target and Nordstrom for really good prices in basic colors. Forever21 also has them in all kinds of colors and I have some of them. I'm not sure if I can recommend them yet. They don't seem to do well after multiple washes.

Here're some that fit my description of a good camisole. I couldn't leave the house in the morning without one.
